Writing about sports is a little more difficult than I had imagined...especially when I work nights till 1:30 AM during the most important sports nights. I find most of my information comes from talk radio or SportsCenter. I've also become a huge internet story reader, I've definately become a lot more respectful of people who do it well.
I did get a chance to watch the Heisman Trophy announcement, (congrats to Mark Ingram). I appreciated how emotional he was about winning. I felt like he cared, truly cared about what was transpiring. While watching it and listening to all the commentators beforehand I thought two things; the first was that the person who really deserved it would not win. Not to say that Ingram didn't deserve it, but I disagree that he was the best collegiate football player. CJ Spiller was not even invited to New York but arguably had a better season. Nasklffdjsalf Suh also had an incredible year and will most likely be the number one pick in the draft. I also would have liked to see Toby Gerhart win the Trophy, but to say the Heisman Trophy goes the the absolute most talented college player is a little naive.
I'm trying hard to not put down Ingram, but to be truthful, voters wanted to give the trophy to him. They liked the idea of an Alabama man finally winning. They liked he played in the SEC title game (and won) against the "The Chosen One" Tim Tebow. It hurt Gerhart that he didn't play in the last week. It hurt Suh that he lost in the Big-12 game to Colt McCoy.
The second thing that flowed through my mind was that all I wanted was for Tim Tebow to not win. He's a great guy and a very good football player, but I really don't think he's even the best quarterback on his team. Guy's a runner. Someone who doesn't mind a little contact, but his arm is decent at best and his motion is terribly slow. He shouldn't have been the second player to ever win two Heismans.
Overall, good weekend (much not discussed in this column) and I'm looking forward to MNF tonight. GO 9ERS!!!!

Whoa Whoa Whoa you mean that Mark Ingram won the Heisman? Someone from the storied history of Alabama FINALLY won the award? Just kidding, Mark Ingram was a worthy candidate. Interesting to see the other types of season's that the other candidates had. I think Colt McCoy lost it in his near all-time dumb mistake at the end of the Big XII championship. Toby Gerhart could have easily won, his stats were there, but he plays for Stanford, a non-elite program that actually happened to be better than USC this year. Ndamokung Suh (or however the heck you spell it, I liked Mack's spelling of it better) was a great defensive player this year, had some great stats, but played for an average Nebraska team. And we all know how the nation loves "Preacherman" Tim Tebow. It was the closest vote in history, and for a good reason: all of the candidates very well could have won.
